World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Expansion Preview

The popular online role-playing game, World of Warcraft, allows for players to create characters of various races and complete quests for various rewards, including gold to be used in the game, experience points to reach higher levels and character gear. The first expansion to the game, Burning Crusade, allowed for players to max out at level 70 and introduced blood elves and night elves to game play. The second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, will also introduce a new class, as well as a new continent with new quests. Here are a few highlights that will be included in Wrath of the Lich King.

Perhaps the most anticipated feature for the new expansion is the new hero class of death knight. The death knight will be the game’s first playable hero class and will be available to all players with an existing character of level 55 or higher. Players will be allowed one death knight per realm as long as they have at least one level 55 character. Though the death knight cannot wield a shield, the class can use plate armor and the new rune class of weapons, including Runeaxes and Runeswords. The class also depends on runes, rather than rage or mana, to cast spells. Two of each rune will be available and will require a cool down period after use before the rune can be used again. Death knights will also have pets that have a set duration. The class will be available to both Alliance and Horde characters and will not be limited to characters of a certain race.

Wrath of the Lich King also introduces a new profession called inscription. Inscription is similar to enchanting except that it focuses on spells and abilities rather than gear. A character with the inscription profession will be able to enhance characters’ spells and abilities, such as adding a 5-second stun to a Frost Shock spell. In the expansion, the level cap for professions is also raised from 375 to 450.

With the Burning Crusade expansion, the highest level a character could achieve was level 70. With the second expansion, the level cap is raised to 80. This implies a wide array of new quests meant for level 70s to raise the level to 80. There will also be new items, dungeons, creatures, weapons and spells.

Just as Burning Crusade introduced the continent of Outland, Wrath of the Lich King introduces the continent of Northrend. The continent is in northern Azeroth and notable for being covered in snow and ice. Quests in Northrend will be intended for characters level 68 or higher.

The introduction of the second expansion for World of Warcraft brings various upgrades and new features to keep game play stimulating. A new class, profession and the ability to level to 80 are just a few of the new features that are included in the expansion.
