The 3D Ultra Mini Golf series started around the late 90’s. I had Ultra Mini Golf Deluxe for the PC and used to play it all the time with my mom and sis. Fast forward ten years and we get this…oh boy, do we ever. This game had been in production for years as a sequel to the PC game. It remained unfinished for a long time until Wanako Studios took over and completed it in 2006. I use the term “completed” loosely as the game still feels incomplete.

There are three ways to golf in this game: pressing and holding ‘A’ until you get the right power level, the three clicks method that has been used in games like Mario Golf, and analog. Personally, I like the pressing and holding method slightly over the analog although all three methods still don’t feel too good. There are also power-ups in this game like the spring ball, the glue ball (slows your ball down) and the wind tunnel (which turns the hole into a vacuum).

Let’s get to the negatives and boy, there are a lot of them. First, the graphics look like they were made almost ten years ago (they were to be honest), and the design of some of the holes are atrocious. Why is there a random scorpion? It makes no sense! There’s also a hole later in the course which has an unforgiving hill. Good luck making par there. Online can also get slow every now and then.

Overall, the game is not the worst ever but it’s very disappointing. I was hoping for a game like the old PC version but instead, we get this rushed production. Shame on you developers! - Andrew
